Workshop #1
Earlier in this chapter, you learned that strategy is not simply the domain of business and can be a critical component of athletic teams. Consider an athletic team you are a part of or have watched.
• How would you describe the team’s strategy? • What are some examples of the team aligning its talent management practices with its strategy? • How does the coach empower the team to execute its strategy? • Does the team have an observable competitive advantage?
Each workshop assignment will be submitted in a Word document in essay format that is a minimum of 1 page in length. You should also include your sources used.
Workshop #2
Identify three firms that use a different generic strategy to compete: low cost, differentiation, and focus. 1. For each of the three firms you identified, list the activities that support its generic strategy. 2. Take each of the three firms and apply Porter’s 5-Forces Model to them. Decide whether each of the three firms is in a structurally attractive indus- try based on your analysis. 3. Take each of the three firms and list each one’s tangible, intangible, and human resources. 4. Construct a value chain for each of the three firms. 5. Which firm would you invest in and why?
Your submission should be a minimum of one page in length. Please submit using a Word document and include your sources.
Workshop #3
Identify a company that has appeared on the “Great Places to Work For” List (http://www .greatplacetowork.com/best-companies/ 100-best-companies-to-work-for) for at least two years and outline why you believe that it was placed on this list. Find a competitor of the company that is not included on the list. Compare and contrast the two companies. How does the company on the list stand out?
