DSL and ADLS are very similar and are part of the same Rubric Table Grading Requirement (10 points total). However, you must complete one row in the table above for DSL and one row for ADSL.

ATTRIBUTES COLUMN

Attributes are inherent characteristics of the technology and are not Pros (advantages) or Cons (disadvantages) related to the technology.Typically an attribute is a numeric value that represents a measurement of that technology’s characteristic. You must address at least 4 attributes for each communications technology listed in the table above. Typical Attributes you might address are the following (you should use the textbook to understand these terms below):

  • Speed (raw bandwidth -typically quoted by vendor)
  • Performance (e.g. percentage up-time)
  • Type of medium used
  • Geographic Availability (cities, rural, etc.)
  • Market Share (size of market)
  • Customer Satisfaction (percentage)
  • Cost (dollar figure per month)
  • Ease-of-Installation
  • MTTR – Mean Time To Repair (reliability measurement,      not opinion but a numeric value)
  • Packet Loss Factors (susceptible to line noise,      congestion, etc.)
  • Distance Limitations (distance in kilometers or      miles)

PROS AND CONS COLUMN

You should address issues that result from the characteristics of the technology. Typically Pros and Cons are supported (cited) opinions. For example:

  • Cost as compared to other options
  • Downloading Speeds as compared to other options
  • Uploading Speeds as compared to other options
  • Reliability as compared to other options
  • Downtime as compared to other options
  • Voice (VoIP) capabilities
  • Availability as compared to other options
  • Distance Limitation as compared to other options
  • Security Risks
